As of August 15, 2023, Vietnam has implemented a new visa policy for foreign tourists, featuring significant adjustments such as the introduction of 90-day e-visas and an extension of the temporary stay period for individuals entering the country under the exemption one-way visas with 45 days.
At the same time, the amendment and supplementation of various articles within the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam have come into effect, VisaGuide.World reports.
Vietnam will also grant e-visas to individuals from all nations and territories across the globe, permitting entry via 16 land border gates, 13 sea border gates, and 13 air border gates.
This move affects the improvement of international relations and fosters cooperation and person-to-person exchange. It welcomes people worldwide who wish to travel to Vietnam, reunite with loved ones, engage in business activities, or participate in various ventures.
Easier Entry & Longer Stays for Tourists
These visas can be used for single or multiple entries. In contrast, the previous policy limited e-visas to 80 countries, with a maximum validity period of 30 days. With this new regulation, foreign tourists can confidently plan extended trips or business ventures in Vietnam without needing visa extensions or further applications.
New Visa Rules for Visitors in Vietnam & Exciting Exemptions
In addition to the new open e-visa policy, another initiative recently introduced by the Vietnamese Government entails extending the visa exemption period for tourists from countries unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam.
As outlined in Resolution No. 128/NQ-CP, officially released by the Vietnamese Government on August 14, 2023, the duration for granting temporary residence to 13 countries includes the following:
- Germany
- France
- Italy
- Spain
- Great Britain
- Northern Ireland
- Russia
- Japan
- Korea
- Denmark
- Sweden
- Norway
- Finland
- Belarus
In this regard, the period of granting temporary residence to citizens of these 13 countries has been extended threefold, from 15 days to 45 days from the date of entry.
Visa-Free Travel to Phu Quoc
Apart from the new policies, it’s essential for foreign tourists visiting Vietnam to be aware of the particular visa exemption policy in place for Phu Quoc, which offers several advantages.
As per Resolution No. 80/NQ-CP issued by the Government of Vietnam, Phu Quoc Economic Zone in Kien Giang Province is designated as a coastal economic zone with a visa exemption policy for foreigners. Under this policy, foreign visitors can enter and stay in Phu Quoc for up to 30 days without needing a visa.
Furthermore, even if foreigners arrive at an international border gate of Vietnam by air or sea and initially remain in the transit area at that border gate before transferring to Phu Quoc island, they are still exempt from visa requirements.
